MAPAMOBILE LAUNCHES IN SOUTH AFRICA

Licensing deal follows successful UK launch for mobile location service provider

MI International has licensed Cellfind (Proprietary) Ltd to market its mobile location service, mapAmobile, in South Africa. The deal follows the successful launch of mapAmobile's consumer and corporate products in the UK.

The service, which will be marketed under the brand name "Look4me", will be the only passive mobile location service in South Africa and will be sold via the country's largest cellular network operator, Vodacom. The consumer service was launched at the end of February with a corporate service due in April.

During an initial promotional phase, Cellfind is offering free Look4me subscriptions to Vodacom's 1.2million contract holders. Users will be able to subscribe via their mobile phone and pay for location requests through their network. The location service is not for profit, with charges made per location request and for the duration of the 'USSD session', effectively the time it takes to make the location request. Location requests can also be made via the Internet.

Cellfind managing director, Alan Knott-Craig, who is based in Johannesburg, is optimistic about take-up of Look4me: "Look4me is a service that provides peace of mind for all cell phone users, thereby improving the quality of life for all South Africans. It is easy to use, it is affordable, and it is useful. We expect to have a subscriber base of 100,000 within the first three months."

Graham Church, director of sales for mapAmobile, adds: "The expansion of mapAmobile abroad is great news for us and a massive vote of confidence in mobile location services. Our ultimate goal is to become global, so the deal with Cellfind is a significant step forwards."

MAPAMOBILE PUTS BUSINESS FLEETS ON THE MAP

New mobile phone location service offers businesses cost effective alternative to GPS

MI International has introduced a new service enabling companies to improve their operational efficiency by remotely identifying the locations of their mobile workforce.

Called mapAmobile, Corporate Edition, the service uses GSM technology to provide a low cost alternative to GPS systems and has been designed specifically for companies that regularly need to redeploy their vehicles or check the journey progress of their mobile workforce. The service is set to run during agreed working hours and whilst participating employees must have their mobiles switched on, they do not have to answer them so are not interrupted in their work or whilst driving.

mapAmobile, Corporate Edition, is simplicity itself to operate with companies able to identify the location of employees using either the web, WAP or SMS. Seconds after a location request is made a message is sent detailing the position of the mobile phone - usually a road name and postcode - in addition to the date, time and accuracy of the location. For requests made via the web, locations are also provided by way of a map.

For managers or supervisors who themselves work in the field, the SMS locating facility is of particular interest, enabling location requests to be made directly from their own mobile phones.

Unlike some mobile phone location services, mapAmobile, Corporate Edition, extends beyond individual employees and can be used to locate the whereabouts of groups of phones, such as sales teams or maintenance crews; or locate all drivers operating across a specific region. The service can also identify which vehicle is closest to a specific postcode so that jobs can be allocated to the nearest driver and up to the minute delivery times obtained for customers.

To save time calling individuals or groups of drivers, mapAmobile Corporate Edition can be programmed to make periodic location requests for up to the minute journey progress reports - particularly important where time sensitive jobs are being undertaken. A company's control centre can also be notified when a driver moves into or away from a particular postcode which can indicate when jobs have been completed; how close a driver is to his or her end destination; or if there are any hold ups that customers may need to be advised of.

In addition to the core location service, mapAmobile, Corporate Edition, incorporates a host of other features designed to enhance business efficiency. These include a management reporting package with a number of standard reports including provision of daily, weekly or monthly usage reports so businesses can see at a glance how many location requests they've made, either for individuals or groups. Other reports available include maps showing the locations of individuals or groups of users; lists of SMS messages sent; and credit balance.

As well as enhancing a company's fleet operations and administration, mapAmobile, Corporate Edition, also provides a useful security facility. With employees, goods, and vehicles on the road a company’s keys assets are constantly on the move so instant access to their location provides not just peace of mind as far as security and safety is concerned but also ensures that any potentially business threatening deviations or delays are quickly resolved.

Graham Church, director of sales for MI International, said:

"Great Britain has over two and a quarter million company cars on the road and the UK freight-logistics industry alone employs nearly half a million drivers. But as workforces become increasingly mobile, so the drive towards greater efficiency brings with it the need to know where drivers are at any given time during the working day. mapAmobile, Corporate Edition, extends the boundaries of individual phone location services in this respect by providing location and management information that can really improve business efficiency."

In the development of mapAmobile, Corporate Edition, MI International has taken great care to respect the sensitivities of some employees over their participation in locating services. All companies that register with mapAmobile, Corporate Edition, are provided with copies of a specially produced guide for their employees which highlights how the service works and the steps taken to safeguard their security and privacy.

mapAmobile, Corporate Edition, also adheres to an industry Code of Practice conforming to legislation on employee monitoring and data protection.

Costs for the new service vary according to the size of vehicle fleet. For a fleet of between 11 and 100 vehicles there is an annual licence fee of 35 per handset. Location requests then cost between 13p and 15p for a web search or between 18p and 20p for an SMS search.

CYBIT ACQUIRES MAPAMOBILE MOBILE LOCATION SERVICE

Cybit Holdings PLC is pleased to announce the extension of its portfolio of tracking and asset management solutions with the acquisition of the innovative mapAmobile mobile location service from MI International. The purchase has been funded by cash and the issue of 2.5 million new shares at 2p per share.

Cybit will add mapAmobiles location services offered in two variants, a Corporate Edition launched earlier this year and a Consumer solution offering discreet monitoring of children and vulnerable people - to its existing range of fleet and asset management solutions, which already includes Fleetstar-Online - the companys modular Internet-based fleet management solution - and Drive-IT software for car pool management.

With the Corporate Edition, organisations can locate their mobile workforce, using the mobile phone network at any time and view their locations on a map at either local or national levels in seconds. As the service requires no extra hardware other than a mobile phone or the need to implement a GPS solution, it is easy to deploy and helps organisations to manage their mobile workforce at a fraction of the cost of standard GPS tracking systems.

The consumer solution addresses an important concern among consumers allowing them to discreetly monitor the whereabouts of children and other vulnerable people in their care. Subscriptions cost as little as £29.99 per year. Individuals are required to give their permission before mobiles can

be tracked and they are sent regular SMS messages for peace of mind to confirm their continued participation.

mapAmobile works on O2, Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile networks and the Corporate Edition has already been successfully deployed in some 40 UK organisations - including a number of public sector organisations. The consumer offering can be purchased either online, or through retailers such as The Carphone Warehouse.

Richard Horsman, Chief Executive, Cybit, said:

There is a growing requirement for fleet and asset management services that go far beyond first generation telematics offerings and we are finding that more and more UK businesses are seeing location services, such as mapAmobile, as an opportunity to develop competitive advantage. Cybit will now bring tracking and asset management solutions to an entirely new group of customers who will now be able to use standard mobile phone technology to keep track of their mobile employees and assets without having to make a significant investment in technology.

Cybit is focused on developing leading telematics solutions and the addition of mapAmobile to the Cybit portfolio firmly establishes the Companys position as the only vendor to offer an end-to-end range of telematics-enabled tracking and asset management solutions.
